Improv for Actors

Familiarity with improvisation is essential for any aspiring actor (comedic or otherwise). In this course you’ll learn how to put up a fully improvised show. We will learn how this skill will practically apply to on-camera work. Last, I want to prepare students for semi-scripted scenarios.

The Playwright’s Voice

In this course, students will be exposed to the writings, styles and voices of five seminal playwrights.

Stage Combat

Learn how to be present, aware, and engaged. Learn how to center your instruments, engage fluidly with your fellow classmates, and to apply effectively the vocabulary you have learned in a performance situation, in order to create the illusion of violence and conflict.

Balinese Mask

Twice a year, this extremely rare and original approach to Mask work links three theatrical disciplines – Chekhov technique, traditional Balinese Mask and Dance work – into one original performance theory.

Shakespeare

The main focus for the 6 weeks will be on Shakespeare’s text and how to identify the tools that every actor needs to demystify and inhabit the meaning, imagery, rhythm and rhyme of Shakespeare in a way that is honestly human, spontaneously active and at the same time, make full use of the power of Shakespeare’s poetry.

Script Analysis I

In this class students are provided with a practical and applicable step-by-step methodology to finding what is in a script.  Students learn how to bring the text to life with precision and accuracy.

Advanced Script Analysis

In this class, students will build on the methods taught in Script Analysis I to dig deeply into three texts. Each play will be explored for four weeks, allowing a comprehensive analysis.

Actor-Director Dynamic

Work with a director in a lab environment to learn how to independently translate the language of a director, into the language of an actor.
