“Enrolling in the LA Intensive class was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my craft. Terry’s expertise and passion for the art of acting shine through every session, creating an inspiring atmosphere for growth. The curriculum was well-structured, that challenge and nurture creativity. What sets this class apart is the personalized attention each student receives, allowing for tailored feedback and individualized development. Whether you’re looking to hone your skills or renew a passion, this acting class is an absolute gem. Taking this class made me miss NYC because that is where Terry’s actual school is located.”

“I just finished the Atlanta intensive class with Terry and it was the best decision I could’ve made. He helped me see the craft of acting from a whole new perspective and I felt like I grew so much in such a short amount of time. You can tell he genuinely cares because he makes it a point to try and get to know each person individually. I really didn’t want the workshop to end because I loved working with him so much!”

“Terry’s 4-day Intro to Meisner in Atlanta was fantastic. He is an extraordinarily insightful and gifted teacher, and the course was an invaluable introduction to the basic building blocks of being wholly present, listening openly, and responding genuinely. Anyone who has an opportunity to study with Terry should by all means take advantage of it!”

“Terry is a rare gem in today’s landscape of acting training. His deep knowledge of theatre and keen eye for behaviour was so real, and so helpful for my work. I learned so much from watching him interact with others, and he gave me some wonderful, specific things to investigate and take with me in my career. In addition to all that, he is a lovely and caring man! I’ve experienced many teachers, and Terry is the real deal. Can’t wait to work with you again TK!”

Brendan T.

“Terry was able to give each student insights on what they need to do to become more present in the scene and to connect better with our scene partners. He gave constructive encouragement and feedback using Meisner exercises to illustrate areas for improvement.”

“Thank you Terry for your LA Master Class Workshop! Terry is your spirit guide through the journey of your craft. No matter what level of actor you maybe or where you are in your career, it is evident in seeing him work with you and the talented actors in your class. I won TKS’s Instagram Giveaway and got a discount to take to this Master Class. I have been a fan of Terry’s work for many years (Sam Rockwell’s Oscar speech lives in my mind rent free) and had to jump at the opportunity to get to work with the Master. Terry has the magical ability to help you paint a clearer picture of the scene by coaching you through your work with specificity, action, and point of view. His motto, “I worship in the Temple of Action”, is the proverbial truth I needed to walk away from the bad habits I’ve formed over the years of what I thought what was needed and expected of me as working actor. He reminded us LA actors of the importance of voice and the necessary journey to uphold the playwright’s vision. Watching his former students from his Brooklyn Studio and/or days in NYU was a Master Class within a Master Class. It was a reminder that we actors are always learning, we can forget our fundamentals and build bad habits, but the journey continues and we can always come to “the dojo” to sharpen our tools and get a good workout and find our strength within ourselves, as well as let go of bad habits that do not service the truth of the story. He will ask you, “How can I help?” No acting teacher or coach has ever asked me this question. They usually just spit out all the the answers of what is wrong with me. I asked for his help and his specificity of what I needed brought a better understanding of the pieces I could not see and a greater desire to dig even deeper into my craft. I completed the workshop feeling like my system just got a hard re-set, everything in me is working faster, more effiecient, and ready to continue the journey ahead. My only regret is that never took his classes when I lived in New York many years ago! If you are lucky enough to live in Brooklyn or in NYC, invest in yourself and your craft and take the journey with TKS! If Terry tours your city, sign up for the Master Class!”

“I just took Terry’s 4-day Intensive in Los Angeles and I’m still on a ‘high’ from everything I learned. First off, I want to say that Terry created such a collaborative and safe environment for all the actors. Everyone felt free to share their vulnerability and it made for some powerful moments in class. Both during scenes and from people sharing personal stories. I felt privileged to witness it and I definitely learned A LOT.

Terry would bring up the Meisner technique often, which is based on listening to your acting partner, and it really reminded me that my character’s lines are FOR my partner, TO my partner, OFF of my partner, BECAUSE of my partner. It’s all about listening and receiving and trying to change who you’re speaking to. It made me feel more connected in my scene work.
Because of that I feel I learned how to build a stronger scene. As well as how to make things clearer by having a stronger emotional point of view.

I especially enjoyed watching Terry cater his approach to each and every student. He could adjust his input based on a person’s sensitivities, capabilities and nuances to understand how they think so they could meet in the middle and collaborate.
It was a lot of fun to listen to Terry’s wisdom. He’s worked with some amazing artists and it was really cool to see how practical and vast his knowledge of the craft of acting is. Plus, he’s hilarious! He never failed to bring levity when needed. He’s down-to-earth, sweet, and such a great teacher. 😉
10/10 would recommend!!!”

“I recently took Terry’s 1-week scene study intensive that he conducts in Atlanta with Drama Inc. It was a phenomenal class. The depth with which we dug into the material was incredible (especially given the short length of the workshop), and Terry tailored his coaching so specifically to each actor’s toolbox. I always felt he spoke to me in a way I fully understood, and I felt he knew where to push me and challenge me. I am looking into enrolling in one of TK’s longer NY-based programs based on my experience in this workshop. Thanks Terry!”

“Recently, I completed my second round of a four-day Master Class Intensive with Terry Knickerbocker, hosted by Drama Inc. in Atlanta. The goal is to make your prepared scenes more lively, rich, and free by exploring bolder choices, richer relationships, and a more authentic life using your imagination. And as long as you do the work, and come fully prepared and ready to work, Terry absolutely collaborates with you to deliver.

It’s my experience that Terry has a wonderful way of seeing and meeting actors where they are. He expresses his directions, insights, and concepts in a way that I found easy to understand. There were many wonderful ‘lightbulb’ moments with the adjustments and feedback he generously gave – not only to me but also when watching the other actors work. Every day, I felt pushed just enough outside my comfort zone to grow and explore but still feel supported and seen.

Four days in a Master Class with Terry was challenging and revealing but also very rewarding. Both times I walked away with more tools and an awareness that has me feeling more confident in my work and my instincts as an actor. If I have the opportunity to work with Terry again in the future I absolutely will, and if you’re looking for a place to help develop your skills and/or feeling stuck in your work as an actor then I would highly recommend studying with Terry in any capacity you can as well.”

Why do celebrated actors keep coming back to Terry?

natasha lyonne

“The environment Terry creates feels immediately rich with ideas and specific choices. Going off and making a movie after our work together, I felt well-armed to bring a very real, original, and emotionally fleshed-out person to the screen. I felt confident in my choices and spent less time second-guessing myself. All our work freed me up to be in the moment, and improvise with specificity, and to feel very alive in the role I was playing.”

Natasha Lyonne, Orange is the New Black, Russian Doll, Glass Onion, Big Mouth

Jurnee Smollett

“Terry’s understanding of the history of craft within stage and screen is unmatched. Any actor that has the chance to study with Terry will greatly benefit from it.

I know I have.”

Jurnee Smollett, The Burial, Lovecraft Country, Birds of Prey, The Debaters

“I first took an acting class from Terry Knickerbocker more than 25 years ago. Since then I have worked with him on every film and stage role I’ve done. Nobody’s better at what he does. Terry is incredibly intuitive and full of ideas that are usually outside the box. His sense of what is truthful is like a laser. I depend on him. He’s invaluable to me and I don’t know what I’d do without him.”

Sam Rockwell, Oscar Winner and Tony Nominee, Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri, Vice
