Clown work is based in the pursuit of the clown in all of us: you as the “little one” who used to play with abandon and wasn’t yet socialized. You are the actor with a desire to uncover the beautiful, the violent, the passionate, the mysterious, and the funny with an intense curiosity. Through an introduction to Clown work and solo, partner, and group exercises, students will remember what it was like to play, will rethink their relationship with failure, and will fight their fears and identify and combat their inhibitions as actors and artists. Through Clown-based improvisational character and scene creation, students will exercise their own unique imagination, creativity, and voice to create original work.
