Conservatory Program Tracks
Fundamentals
Conservatory Fundamentals consists of the Meisner curriculum plus Script Analysis, Theatre History, and one Movement and one Voice class, one each year.
The Fundamentals program provides the groundwork of the Meisner training that is at the heart of TK Studio’s approach to acting training, while also inviting the actor to experience how Theatre History, Script Analysis, and core Movement and Voice training expand the actor’s toolkit in order to meet the demands of the industry.
Essentials
Conservatory Essentials consists of the Meisner curriculum, Script Analysis, Theatre History, and four Core Movement and four Core Voice classes.
Conservatory Essentials offers Core Voice and Movement training that enhances each actor’s talent and expression. The movement, voice, and acting classes work synergistically, allowing you to master your instrument and fully embody imaginary circumstances. The final semester culminates in a Capstone Project, where you develop and share your work with an invited audience.
Complete
Conservatory Complete includes everything in the Essentials program, plus classes in Clown, Alexander Technique, and additional selections from our Special Topic classes.
Conservatory Complete is a full-time program for students committed to the holistic training of their instrument, modeled after top university acting conservatories. Clown work fosters creativity and play in a judgment-free space, while the Alexander Technique deepens understanding of the body for creating embodied characters. Together, these classes elevate each actor, equipping them with tools for sustained career success.
Program Structure: Year 1, Year 2, and Tracks
Year 1: Building the Foundation
In the first two semesters of the program, actors explore their true selves through various imaginary circumstances created by students and scripted scenes. You’ll delve into diverse stories, such as being an only child, having six months to live, winning the lottery, making a terrible mistake, and so on.
Year 1 also focuses on building essential skills in:
- Improvisation
- Emotional preparation
- Crafting intimate, imaginary relationships with other actors
- Truthful responsiveness in the moment
At the end of the first two semesters, each student should have access to the full range of their emotional life and be able to live out any imaginary circumstance that could happen to them. This foundational work is at the heart of a strong conservatory acting program and prepares actors for the more advanced character work of the second year.

Year 2: Character Work and Application
Building on the first year’s foundation, semesters three and four focus on character work, using the aspects of your personality discovered earlier to portray different people. Each character represents a unique version of you, honoring the story’s circumstances.
As Robert Duvall, who studied with Meisner, said, “Character acting is you, bent.” You will learn to connect with characters and understand their reactions while infusing your unique perspective and imagination into your work.
If the first year is about refining your emotional palette, the second year is about painting portraits of people and putting those techniques into practice. This progression gives actors the chance to move from foundational emotional access into more specific, embodied, and fully realized character work.
