#TKActors KiYonna Carr & Bryan Cortes Figueroa Awarded Scholarship to Chekhov Intensive

Contributed in celebration by TKStaff Emma Welch

After rich conversations with her Chekhov workshop which recently concluded, #TKFaculty Bethany Caputo reached out to the Michael Chekov Association (of which she is on faculty) asking if there were any scholarships to offer – they gave her two!

We are very excited to share the news that First Year Student KiYonna Carr and recent Second Year graduate Bryan Cortes Figueroa were awarded these scholarships to attend a week-long International Chekhov Workshop this summer!

KiYonna Carr

The Michael Chekhov Technique is a psychophysical technique that utilizes the body and the imagination, and the knowledge that the two are inextricably linked. The emphasis on doing compliments the Meisner work with given circumstance as it helps sharpen the actors’ relationship to impulse and the expansive physicalization of their imaginations.

The week-long workshop, which has been fully converted to an online training format, will include a diverse & rigorous schedule of classes with distinguished faculty. The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Provide a space for meaningful connection & healing during this challenging & socially distant time
  • Keep the fire burning
  • Experiment

Bryan Cortes Figueroa

Many thanks to Bethany for creating this opportunity! Bryan & KiYonna are two wonderfully insightful, committed, spirited actors and we are so excited to see what they will discover this summer.
