Clown Jamboree!

Jam·bo·ree /ˌjambəˈrē/ (n) a large celebration or party, typically a lavish and boisterous one.

Course Overview

Session 1: Nosed Clown Play/Creating Original Material
Sessions 2-4: Applying Clown to Outside Material + Character

In Session 1 we will give your Nosed Clowns the chance to workshop some new original material, as you continue to flesh out who your Clown really is, what thrills them, what they want to share with the audience.

In Sessions 2-4 you will be invited to bring into the room any kind of outside material you’d like to work on–original work, commercial audition sides, a classic Arthur Miller scene you’ve been working on? Then, either Nosed or UnNosed, we will attack the work from the Clown Lens, with our Clown skills, and the Clown Spirit of play, fun, risk, softness, and mess. We’ll also be investigating Character through this same lens–using an improvisational character creation tool from the world of Clown to give you a whole new experience in character development.

All sessions begin with the signature Clown warmups and games you know and love.

This Jamboree is designed with total flexibility in mind–drop in for 1, 2, or 3 sessions, or come for the whole dang thing!

Prerequisites:

  • Session 1, and Full Weekend, only open to those who have completed Clown II
  • Sessions 2, 3, 4 open to those who have only completed Clown I or Clown Intensive

Meet Your Instructor

Justin is an actor, director, and teaching artist who has brought Clowning and Devising work to students ages 4-84 in New York City and around the world.

During an Open House, a group of students attentively listens to a man in a white shirt, seated on a desk in the classroom. Casually dressed, they take notes while sitting on orange chairs arranged in a semicircle.
