Jurnee’s Bio

Jurnee Smollett is an American actor. She is best known for her roles in films such as Birds of Prey, Eve’s Bayou, and The Great Debaters. TV credits include Lovecraft CountryParenthood, Friday Night Lights, and Underground

Jurnee has been acting nearly her entire life—she received her SAG card at 3 years old. She began her career as a child actress on sitcoms Full House, Martin, Hangin with Mr Cooper, and On Our Own. She received critical acclaim for her performance as 10-year-old Eve in the 1997 film Eve’s Bayou. She appeared in the film The Great Debaters, and in the TV shows Friday Night Lights, True Blood, and Underground.  Most recently she appeared as Leticia Leti Lewis in the mega hit Lovecraft Country for HBO. An activist for a variety of causes, Jurnee has been active in HIV/AIDS prevention since she was 11 years old,  including for the Black AIDS Institute, the Red Cross, and Artists for a New South Africa. She has received the Critics Choice Award and an NAACP Image Award.
