Our exploration of different styles of performance will push you “beyond the real”—beyond the realism and naturalism common to acting training and into exploration of heightened language and character. This will include exploration of physicality and vocal production—how big is one’s physicality in a Sarah Ruhl play? How does the actor use their voice to convey the poetic language of an Aleshea Harris play?

Meet Terry, your passionate and dedicated acting coach! With over thirty years of experience in New York City, Terry has coached actors on over 300 films, television shows, and theater projects, both on and off-Broadway.
Terry’s coaching highlights include working with Sam Rockwell on his Oscar-winning performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, as well as his Oscar-nominated performance in Vice. Terry has also collaborated with talented actors such as Michelle Williams, Boyd Holbrook, Emmy Rossum, and Zac Efron.
Deeply committed to his craft, Terry is rooted in the Meisner acting technique, having trained with William Esper, Sanford Meisner’s protegé, for over 25 years before starting his own Two Year Conservatory Program.

Actors enrolled in class will be partnered up in order to select a scene from a play to work on prior to the class beginning. Ideally, this material should stretch the actor and support their ongoing growth. Terry offers a lengthy list of play suggestions in order to help guide you in your scene selection process. Terry will approve of these student-selected scenes.
