Joyous Improv

This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of long-form improv, guided by Del Close’s principle of “Truth in Comedy.”

Course Overview

This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of long-form improv, guided by Del Close’s principle of “Truth in Comedy.” We’ll focus on “living truthfully under given imaginary circumstances” and uncover the comedic potential within those situations.
Using a shared vocabulary—including key concepts like “Yes, And,” “Game,” and “If That’s True, Then What Else Is True”—you’ll learn how to build full scenes starting from a single word suggestion. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be equipped to integrate long-form improv into your artistic practice.

A gray-haired man in a white shirt sits on a table, gesturing animatedly like William Esper, as he talks to an engaged group of people around him. The group, consisting of both men and women, takes notes in the brightly lit room.
