Sophie Amieva has taught Bouffon at the famed Experimental Theater Wing at Tisch School of the Arts, NYU, since 2004.
Sophie has led many Bouffon and Clown workshops for professional actors and currently teaches with the Movement Theater Studio. She has performed internationally with Philippe Genty and La Rumeur Theater companies as well as in New York with NTUSA, the International WOW Company, and Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. Born and raised in France, she trained in physical theater at L’École International Jacques Lecoq and in clown with Philippe Gaulier. Sophie has also studied mime technique and mask with Carlo Boso from the Teatro Piccolo di Milano.
After establishing her own critically acclaimed theater company, La Grappe De Bouffons, she came to the U.S. where she continues to perform and teach. She has performed in many venues with her long-time alter ego Valerie Chameaux, including in the one woman show Pessimist, Moi? The New York Times has reviewed her work saying that “Sophie Amieva displays a fine talent for comedy”.
Sophie is also the co-founder of Brooklyn Beanstalk, a language and Performance Art program for kids with a big focus on Circus Arts and Physical Comedy.
